If you are a fan of flavoured vodkas, to drink neat or to use with mixers in cocktails. You need to make a batch of this beautiful Mirabelle Plum vodka.

What are Mirabelle plums?

Mirabelle plums can often be mistaken for cherries, as they are the same shape and size. But they are yellow in colour and have their own distinct flavour and aroma. They are usually ready to harvest in July in the UK and you will know they are ripe as they will drop to the ground.
This is the way we harvest them from our tree, but you’ll have to be quick as birds and other wildlife like them too!

They have a tropical aroma and a delicate flavour a bit like pears and pineapples mixed together.
They are perfect for making jams and pies as well as flavoured vodka.
Is vodka Gluten free?
Vodka is gluten free even if it has been distilled from gluten containing grains. The only time you should be wary is if purchasing a flavoured vodka. But you are making your own so you can be safe that it will be gluten free
Is it Vegan?
This recipe is suitable for people following a gluten free diet and a vegan diet.
Do I need any specialist equipment?
A kilner jar is perfect for making sure no liquid evaporates during the making process. Plus a muslin jelly bag is good for straining the liquid at the end of the process.
I use the fruit with the stones still inside, but if you prefer to can destone them with a cherry stoner. My one is an OXO one and works great with Mirabelle plums.
Can I substitute the Mirabelle plums with anything?
You could of course substitute the Mirabelle plums in this vodka recipe for other plums, cherries or damsons. But you’d be missing out on their unique flavour!
